Permanent make up

Permanent makeup is a technique where tattoos are used for producing design which resemble eyelining and other type of makeup for permanently applying colors to the eyelids, lips and face. Permanent makeup also includes creating artificial eyebrows, especially for people who may have lost them due to old age, genetic disturbance or diseases like chemotherapy and alopecia and for disguising white spots on the skin like vitiligo and scars. The technique is also used for enhancing or restoring the areloa of the breasts post breast surgery.

Although the technique is commonly referred to as permanent cosmetics, the other names by which it is known are cosmetic tattooing, micropigmentation and dermapigmentation. Cosmetic tattooing is the most appropriate term as permanent makeup actually refers to tattooing. In the US as well as several other countries, inks which are used for permanent makeup as well as the pigments which are present in the inks are subjected to FDA and other agency regulations as color additives and cosmetics.
